Banner Localization

DataGrail Consent supports localization of the banner experience for all text, button actions, and categories displayed to data subjects. Below is the list of the languages we support and present to data subjects based on their browser's language settings:

  • Bulgarian
  • Croatian
  • Czech
  • Danish
  • Dutch
  • English
  • Finnish
  • French
  • German
  • Greek
  • Hungarian
  • Irish
  • Italian
  • Latvian
  • Lithuanian
  • Maltese
  • Polish
  • Portuguese
  • Romanian
  • Russian
  • Slovak
  • Slovene
  • Spanish
  • Swedish

DataGrail will only display the language if all associated text has been provided. To help with any specific strings, you can use built-in machine translation to create localized text for any of the languages listed above.

Data Subject Experience

DataGrail will serve a completely localized banner to data subjects based on their browser settings. Here's an example:

Localized Banner 1

As you can see, data subjects can change the banner language to English or any other complete languages (both categories and description text) using a drop down within the banner. If the data subject changes the banner language, we'll remember this preference for when they visit that site (with the same device) for next time.

For Developers

We read the Accept-Language request header to determine which language to serve to a data subject, in order of the probabilities provided by the header.

Selecting Languages

To localize the banner experience, you'll need to select the languages you wish to make available for localization, which also limits the potential options for a data subject to adjust their banner's language on your website.

Navigate to the settings page and select the languages you wish to provide localized text for throughout DataGrail Consent:

Testing The Localized Banner

Under the banner tab within DataGrail Consent, you'll see a drop down selector that allows you to set up the text for languages you selected via the settings tab.

Localized Banner 3

We assume that by selecting a language for localization, you intend to take care of that before making changes to the banner. Accordingly, we'll let you know if there are any languages that are incomplete:

Localized Banner 4

For non-English text, you can make progress towards localizing text for a specific language and save progress as you go. If you do not complete fields for a language, the banner will not render that specific language for data subjects:

Localized Banner 5

This means that we will look at the next available language preference within the data subject's browser setting and attempt to serve that language by default. If there are no alternate languages set for that data subject, we will render the English banner by default.

Localizing Category Text

Category (or "purpose") localization is similar to banner text localization: you can localize any text for the languages you've selected within the settings tab.

Localized Banner 6

We will similarly warn you for language text that is either partially or totally incomplete.

AI Localization

You can localize banner or category text for any languages you've chosen within the settings tab using AI. This is useful if you want to test this functionality or have coverage for languages for which you need additional support.

Localized Banner 7

You can choose to generate localized text for all the languages you have selected, or for specific languages to be translated from English.

Localized Banner 8

To reiterate the confirmation dialog box above: any text that was already provided for that language will be overwritten by this workflow. Specific URL links will be carried over to the updated language.
