Integrating Discourse

Capabilities

DataGrail's Discourse integration provides the following capabilities:

Before You Start

To successfully configure this integration, please ensure you have sufficient privileges:

• DataGrail User Role: Super Admin, Connections Manager
• Discourse User Role: Admin

Create a Discourse API Key

1. Log in to Discourse Admin panel.

2. Navigate to the API page.

3. Select New API Key.

4. Enter the following information to configure the key, and then select Save.

   Key Configuration

   Description: The description of the API key e.g. "DataGrail."

   User Level: All Users

   Scope: Global

5. Copy the API key and store it in a temporary, secure location.

6. Copy the API Hostname, which is the URL of your Discourse instance e.g. https://acme.discourse.com.

7. Copy the API Username which is the username used to login. Ensure this user has admin permissions in Discourse.

Connect to DataGrail

1. In DataGrail, navigate to Integrations and select Configure New Integration to search for Discourse.
2. Enter the API Hostname, API Username, and API Key.
3. Select Configure Integration.

Troubleshooting

If you are unable to successfully connect the integration, review these common troubleshooting steps:

Ensure Required Permissions Are Granted on API Keys/Resources

DataGrail checks required permissions and scopes on API keys/resources used by each integration. If all necessary permissions are not granted, new connections will fail.

Review Required Account Types and User Roles

If users do not have the necessary permissions or the minimum required user role in the connecting system, the connection to DataGrail will fail. Additionally, connections will fail if your account type does not match the one required by the integration.
